Custom Mouthguards in Tarzana, CA
A custom mouthguard is molded specifically to your bite, unlike a one-size boil-and-bite kit from a sporting goods store. We make two kinds: sports guards to protect against impact, and nightguards to protect against grinding and clenching while you sleep.
Sports Mouthguards
Built for contact sports and anything with a real risk of a blow to the face — football, basketball, hockey, wrestling, and similar activities. A properly fitted guard cushions impact and reduces the risk of chipped or knocked-out teeth, without the bulk or poor fit of an off-the-shelf version.
Nightguards for Grinding & Clenching
If you wake up with jaw soreness, headaches, or worn-down or sensitive teeth, you may be grinding or clenching at night without realizing it. A custom nightguard creates a barrier between your upper and lower teeth, protecting your enamel and easing pressure on your jaw joint.
How It's Made
- A quick impression or digital scan of your teeth
- Your mouthguard is custom-fabricated to that exact mold
- A fitting appointment to confirm comfort and adjust as needed
Caring for Your Mouthguard
Rinse it after every use, brush it gently with a toothbrush (no toothpaste, which can be abrasive), and let it air dry before storing it in its case. Bring it to your regular checkups so we can check the fit as your bite changes over time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why not just use a store-bought mouthguard?
Boil-and-bite guards are bulky, don't stay in place well, and offer less consistent protection than a guard molded to your exact bite.
How do I know if I need a nightguard?
Common signs include waking up with jaw or facial soreness, headaches, or teeth that look worn or feel more sensitive than usual. We can also check for wear patterns at your next exam.
How long does a custom mouthguard last?
With good care, most last several years, though growing teens may need to be refit more often as their bite changes.
Does insurance cover mouthguards?
Coverage varies by plan and by whether it's for a medical need (like grinding) versus sports use. See our Insurance page or contact us to check your specific plan.
